LEGAZPI CITY – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office no. V (MGB R.O.-V) is set to conduct Vulnerability Risk Assessment (VRA), Updating of 1:10,000 scale maps and Ground Water Resources Assessment (GWRA) in the targeted municipalities/cities of Albay and some LGUs of Camarines Sur.

Ms. Arlene E. Dayao, Chief Geologist, Geology Division of MGB V has programmed this February 9 to March 8, 2018 the conduct of the following activities: VRA and updating of 1:10,000 scale maps in Legazpi City and Tabaco City and GWRA in the municipalities of Oas, Ligao, Libon, Polangui (Province of Albay) Naga City, and municipalities of  Canaman, Camaligan and Gainza (Province of Camarines Sur).  

Division Chief Dayao emphasized that the VRA targets to assess the vulnerability of elements at risk to possible geohazard occurrence in the area; while the Updating of the 1:10,000 scale is aimed to update the existing geohazard maps conducted by the office; and finally, GWRA is carried-out to generate a 1:250,000 scale Hydrogeologic map for the Province.

She further added that outputs of these activities are VRA Risk maps; an updated map on 1:10,000 scale geohazard maps and groundwater inventory maps that would indicate potential sources of potable water in the area. The activities will be of great help to the concerned Local Government Units for the formulation of pro-active development activities such as, but not limited to, disaster risk reduction plans of the concerned areas and assessment of water quality.
