In order to enhance compliance with the mining policies and strengthen the bond of cooperation with its stakeholders throughout Bicol Region, Engr. Roseann Concepcion A. Ybanez, Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. V (MGB R.O.-V) technical personnel deployed in CENRO-San Jacinto has conducted Information, Education and Communication campaign on July 16, 2020 to LGU officials and officers from the MENRO, CENRO and small-scale quarry/sand and gravel operators in Barangay Buyo, San, Fernando, Masbate.

The campaign focuses on educating the stakeholders on the existing policies and procedures relative to small-scale quarrying operation and to resolve issues and concerns encountered by the operators.  Among the topics discussed by Engr. Ybanez were the following: salient features on Quarry operations; transport of minerals/mineral products, confiscation, seizure and disposition of illegally sourced minerals/mineral products; and mandatory requirements for quarry or commercial/industrial sand and gravel permit. Further, Engr. Ybanez discussed the result of the investigation conducted in Barangay Buyo re: illegal quarry activity.

This is an effort of this Office to reach out to stakeholders on the ground and extend technical assistance for more informed small-scale quarry operators in the Region.
