Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the observance of the nationwide community quarantine and travel restrictions, the mining companies underwent a rigorous offsite validation of their submitted documents on Safety, Health, Environment, and Social Development (SHES) performance and accomplishments covering the July 2019 to June 2020 period.

After the performance and accomplishments validation, Filminera Resources Corporation (FRC) and Phil Gold Processing and Refining Corporation (PGPRC) collectively known as the Masbate Gold Project operating in the Municipality of Aroroy, Masbate came out on top among the mining companies in the Philippines, thus, bagged four (4) awards in a recently concluded 2020 Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMEIA) Awarding Ceremony with the theme: “Resilient and Responsible Mining Industry under the New Normal”.

FRC is a recipient of three (3) major awards namely, Platinum Achievement Award for Surface Mining Operation category, Titanium Achievement Award for Mineral Exploration category and Winner for the Safest Mineral Exploration A category. While PGPRC received Titanium Achievement Award for Mineral Processing category.

PMIEA, in accordance with Executive Order no. 399, series of 1997, recognizes the outstanding dedication, initiative, and innovations in the pursuit of excellence of the minerals industry in environmental protection, safety and health management and social community development.

The PMIEA Committee is co-chaired by the Secretary of Environment and the President of Chamber of Mines of the Philippines. Its members include the respective secretaries of the following agencies: Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Health, and Department of Science and Technology. Other members of the said Committee are the Presidents of the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association, and Philippine Mining and Exploration Association.
