Year 2018 can be an exciting time, brimming with the promise of fresh starts and new beginnings. With this atmosphere, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. V (MGB RO-V) throttles up with new targets for the programs and activities in its CY 2018 Work and Financial Plan.

For this year’s Major Programs under the Mineral Resources Enforcement and Regulatory Program, MGB RO-V commits to issue Mining Permits/Contract (including mining-related permits); monitor Mining Permits/Contracts; endorse for declaration Minahang Bayan Area in the Region; issue or implement Cease and Desist Orders; and resolve complaint/case/conflict on mining issue.

Under the Mineral Resources and Geosciences Development Program, the Office commits to endorse for declaration proposed Mineral Reservation Area in the Region; and to conduct awareness and advocacy activities on Mineral Resources and Geosciences (MRGS) with the Sanggunian, with the other groups such as the Academe, Civil Society Organization, Religious Organization, etc; Radio/TV Guestings and Press/Photo Releases.

While under the Geological Risk Reduction and Resiliency Program, MGB RO-V pledges to conduct Vulnerability Risk Assessment and Ground Subsidence Assessment to cities/municipalities of Legazpi City, Tabaco City, Camaligan, Milaor, Aroroy, Milagros, San Miguel, San Andres, Juban, Donsol, Sta. Elena and Capalonga; to conduct  Coastal Geohazard Assessment to cities/municipalities in Bicol Region particularly in Goa, Libon, Oas, Ligao, Pio Duran, Manito, Cataingan and Pio V. Corpuz and municipalities of Eastern Samar mainly in Mercedes, Salcedo and Quipondan. Further, to conduct Groundwater Resource Assessment to provinces of Albay and Camarines Sur; to provide IEC to LGUs of Virac, Bulan, Canaman, San Lorenzo Ruiz, Bato, Balud, Naga City, Vinzons, Iriga, Magarao, Daet, Masbate City, Pili and Talisay. Lastly, to conduct Geologic and Mineral Exploration to quadrangles of Bondokan Esperanza,Masbate; Limbojan Pio V. Corpuz, Masbate; Pulang Duta, Balud, Masbate; Prieto Diaz, Sorsogo; and Balocawe in Cataingan, Masbate.

The MGB RO-V leadership is optimistic that this year will see its programs accomplished with excellent output.
