The world renowned Mayon Volcano and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. V (MGB RO-V) welcomed with smile the 105 geologists from MGB Central and Regional Offices nationwide who explored and appreciated the beauty and wonder of the topography and geologic features of the Region in the recently held National Quadrangle Geological Mapping Workshop last February 6-11, 2017 at Ninong’s Hotel, Legazpi City.
The five-day activity which catered lectures, workshop, and fieldwork in the Province of Albay sought to sharpen skills of the participants in photogeology and in relating aerial photograph interpretation with lithologic units; to have knowledge on the basic information on the regional geology, tectonics and mineralization of the Bicol Region and CALABARZON; and to have improved skills in field mapping and interpretation of field data; and to finalize the Quadrangle Geologic Maps of Region III.
The following topics and activities taken during the workshop are shown with corresponding discussants/presentors.

This national gathering is in line with the capacity-building program of the Bureau in order to standardize field mapping methodologies and organize pre-fieldwork, fieldwork and post fieldwork activities; to capacitate young geologists of the Bureau who shall undertake the Quadrangle Mapping; and to provide venue to discuss detailed operational plans for the execution of the Geological Mapping Program in the Bicol and CALABARZON Regions.
The 5-day activity was buzzing with the new learnings and experiences from the fun-filled conference. And with hopeful eyes, the delegates were looking forward for the start of the quadrangle geologic mapping in the Region.
